The Outreach and Communication Committee exists to inform the public about and involve the public in the activities of the Downtown LA Neighborhood Council.

After months of vandalism and graffiti attacks, one segment of the lovely City owned pedway connecting the WTC to the Bunker Hill Plaza area has been "taken back."  A DLANC/Council District sponsored campaign to bring together all the concerned forces finally got BID to patrol, Essex Management (Bunker Hill Apartments) to trim trees and set up surveillance cameras, and a very amazing new graffiti abatement team hired by the City ("GangFree" or GAP) to do a great job of cleaning and restoring.

Six Community Forums on Neighborhood Needs

The Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department is, hosting six community forums throughout the City, in October 2013.

The City is organizing a series of Consolidated Planning Community Meetings to solicit and engage the public in providing feedback on their respective neighborhood needs and meet of the criteria that the current neighborhood plans require.

These sessions are open to the public and the Council is requesting participation and input. Help create your neighborhood!

DLANC Outreach assists with community school supply drive

This week DLANC had the pleasure of assisting locally community leader Coach Ron Crockett and DTLA social organization, DTLA Rendevous with a school supply drive for the children that live in the mission. Stakeholders and board members were encouraged to bring much needed supplies for the children such as backpacks filled with notepaper, folders, crayons, markers, pens, and pencils.

Coach Ron was striving for fifty backpacks and together we acheived thirty. We will still be taking ongoing donations at each DLANC board meeting.

Coach Ron Crockett, a DTLA local and Skid Row activist, has a goal of providing 50 backpacks full of school supplies for the kids of skid row. Please drop by with donations and join us in an informal remembrance of 9/11. We'll be hanging out on the sidewalk near 5th and Main. BYO folding or camping chair if you like, and any favorite drinks/snacks.

Here are some suggested donation items:
-backpack (kids size)
-lined paper
-pens and pencils
-colored markers
-pocket folders

Hope to see you there!
